Silent Scream.

You know when you have your mouth open but nothing comes out? The one that usually happens in movies where the woman is about to get killed and her mouth is open like this :O. It doesn’t have to be in movies, it happens in the first 30 seconds of Supernatural.

Anyway, that is what exactly happened to me just a few hours ago when I lost my internet connection.

Okay, so I am confusing you with this but, I know this is kinda late thing to celebrate about, but I just want to share to you something. And this is my blog so yeah.

A few months back as we all know John Green painstakingly signed copies of ‘The Fault in Our Stars’. We have been witness to him signing loads of paper that he almost lost a hand. Me – being the Philippines – and living in a small city, could’ve only dreamt of being able to get a copy TFiOS more so than a signed copy.

Fast forward a bit.

I was in a review program for the Nursing Licensure Examination that I took last June 30 – July 01 when someone texted me. It was from a bookstore in my hometown (I was in a review center 3 hours away from home, and transportation is expensive here so I opted to live there for a while) and they said that they were closing and had 60% off on all their books. I asked them if my mom could be able to pick up the books that I planned to reserve, and that she’d pay them on my behalf. They agreed to it and asked for the list of books that I wanted. Several weeks prior to that text, I went to bookstore and found a copy of TFiOS – the first one that I found. It was the only copy they had. It wasn’t signed, and I figured that they wouldn’t send a signed copy of that book here in the Philippines because … come on. Philippines. Asian stereotypes. You get the picture. Alas, the Harry Potter: Page to Screen book was also available and again the only copy that they have at that time. (Just so we’re clear if you wait for another copy to be shipped it would take you 4 weeks or so, and by the time you return the book would’ve already been sold) So after judging it with the amount of money that I have I bought the HP book. I had to control myself from crying in front of the cashier as I paid for the book – I knew John would understand.

Back to the text, when I gave them the list I also asked if they have any John Green or Maureen Johnson books that were there. Sometimes you won’t find it even if you ask the people who work there. Seeing as they were packing up, they did find a book. The Last Blue Envelope by Maureen Johnson. So, I made them reserve the book and told them my mom would pick them up.

As it turns out, I had a few papers I needed to take care of or else I wouldn’t be able to take the PNLE which would put the review I took to waste. So I went back home, just as it was the last day of the bookstore that texted me. My mom and I went in and all the books were off the shelves and were put into large boxes. They were transferring to a new location, they said, but it wouldn’t be for another 6 months until they reopen – hence the book sale. So I took my reserved books and did one final sweep of the piles on the floor thinking of what else to buy when I found it.

Much more to my delight it was on hardback. In the Philippines most of the book versions are sold in paperbacks and frankly since I reread all my books no matter how hard I try to take care of them they do perish.

Anyway, back to the story. So to my excitement I took the book trying hard not to let any of the other books on top of it fall (it was at the near bottom of the pile). After I made my purchases, I promised myself that I won’t read any of the books – yet. I knew that I had to focus on the review and the exams before I bury myself in another world. Because I can memorize the chapters of Harry Potter but not 5 essential vaccines a child must have. So I left them in plastic bag they were in and went back into the review.

Now, since the review and the exams are done, I decided to open the books that I bought. I’m pretty sure you’ve guessed what happens next.

I got a signed copy of TFiOS.

I looked at it at first.

I stared at the small yellow circle as if it would peel off. I opened the book to find John Green’s signature on it with a green marker (the more I freaked out because it’s green — GREEN! As if my love for the color isn’t enough)

I touched it and I whispered, “It’s real.”

You know — how Becky was around Sam? — when she would lightly caress his chest after finding out that it was real. Yeah. I was like that. Including the creepy grin.

It’s not just because it was signed — okay it may be a factor. But the book itself. I didn’t partake much in the plot as I didn’t want to get spoiled, but I know it’s a good book. (Because John Green is awesome).

I honestly say that I haven’t read his other books because well — you can’t find them here. I don’t do ebooks/pdfs unless it’s a horrible book and you just want to read it without wasting money supporting the author so you can criticize it better having read the book. You can order but same case applies in all bookstores here in our city — they disappear as soon as it is placed on the stand before you can blink.

Also to me something signed by someone, whether an author or a celebrity, brings them closer to the fans. It’s something personal that they can give. Aside from the projects they’ve done a signature can mean a lot to some fan – like me who lives across the globe. Also, I believe that if I touched something that John touched I’d get a particle of his awesomeness and writing brilliance.

So now I’m going to lock myself up in my room, like I always do, and read.

EDIT: I wrote this around 5pm and did leave the computer to read it. It’s now 10:07 and my internet is back and I am on page 295. And I didn’t know what to put as a title. And that’s my favorite line that made me laugh so hard. Then the rest was my hypothalamus being pulverized. Not my heart cause if it did, I’d be dead. No the all the feelings in the hypothalamus. Not the heart. The heart just pumps blood.

Since it’s the Easter season, I managed to snag myself three days’ worth of doing nothing and procrastinating on certain aspects of my life. With my internet connection being scarce I decided to make use of my time doing something else. But I’m still procrastinating on my requirements for the Board Exams.

I built a computer table. :)

My mom bought us a PC the other month and I they told us that it came with a free computer table. My mom already brought a table for the PC months ago and so I asked her if I could have the freebie. She said yes but then said I have to build it myself. I agreed.

My laptop’s keyboard doesn’t function anymore so I bought an external keyboard that I connect to my laptop (the wallpaper is made by the talented luckypressure).

I don’t have pictures of when I was building it (completely forgot about it) but let me tell you it both fun and slightly painful at the same time. My hands were red when I finished it.

Anyway, one of the parts of that computer table was a small rail. It prevents the monitor from falling to the other side of the table if you push it far. I found the perfect use for it though.

I always wanted to hang my head phones because I want them to be accessible and also I don’t like it when their cords get knotted with one another. I swear I put them in the drawers properly but it’s like they put themselves in knots that it makes me wonder how they end up like that in the first place. Then I found the perfect solution. Tada!
